Creating a champagne tower is a great way to add some flair and sophistication to your next party. Not only does it look extremely festive, but it also allows you to serve more champagne in less time! All you need is a few bottles of bubbly and plenty of coupe glasses (either glass or plastic will work). Here's a few tips on how to make your own champagne tower.
The first step is selecting the bottle. You will obviously need a good amount of bubbly so big champagne bottles (like magnums or Jeroboams) are ideal. Another option is multiple bottles of the same sparkling wine or champagne as the bubbles will mix together as you pour down the tower. I would recommend a high quality grower sparkling wine, not necessarily an expensive champagne for this, as the point is more for the fun, than the feature a special bottle. There are dozens of delicious sparkling wine options for less than $30/bottle. Shop our premium sparkling wines here.
The next step is to decide how many guests you are serving and how many tiers tall you want your tower to be. A single bottle of champagne serves 5 full glasses. You can reference the info below to help plan for your tower. Starting from the top glass, you will need 4 coupes to support each stem, four glasses to support each of those stems, and so on. Note that the supporting coups will support multiple stems. The base should be large enough that all of the glasses fit comfortably without any gaps or overlaps.
- 2 Tier Tower: 5 glasses (4 base, 1 topper)
- 3 Tier Tower: 14 glasses (9 base, 4 middle, 1 topper)
- 4 Tier Tower: 30 glasses (16 base, 9 third level, 4 second level, 1 topper)
- For each additional tier, multiply the number of tiers by itself and that will be the number of couples in the base. For example, 5 tiers: 5 x 5 = 25 so you will have 25 glasses for the base of a 5 tier tower.
Once you have determined the size of your tower, it's time to start building! Start by placing the glasses in a diamond formation with each glass touching its neighbor. This will ensure that the champagne flows evenly down from one glass to the next. Then, open up your bottles of champagne and very slowly begin pouring into the top glass (use a step-stool if needed), allowing it to overflow. Keep in mind that you'll need approximately one bottle of bubbles to fill four coupes of the tower to the brim. Continue pouring until all of the glasses are filled with bubbly goodness!
Note: there is a short cut method to creating a champagne tower if you want the tower set before guests arrive or don't want to fill each coupe to the brim. You can pour each coupe 1/2 way full prior to building it, then carefully assemble with full glasses.
Once your tower is complete, you can add some extra touches like flowers or decorations around the base. This will make it even more eye-catching! Finally, don't forget to take lots of pictures – this will be an amazing centerpiece for your event!
Creating a champagne tower is an easy way to impress your guests at any gathering. With just a few simple steps, you'll have an impressive centerpiece that everyone will love! So why not give it a try?
