Producer Info: Champagne Marx-Coutelas draws its roots from a presence in the Marne Valley which dates back to the 17th century. The first traces of the Coutelas family appear in the region in 1675, and since then, the love of grapes and vines has been passed down through the generations. Pierre Coutelas brought his surname into the great history of champagne by producing his first bottles in 1927. His daughter Claudine Coutelas inherited the vines from her father and married Jacques Marx, who also had vineyards in the region. Together, they worked tirelessly to give a major elevation to the estate and create the Marx-Coutelas Champagne brand. It is in the heart of the Marne Valley, in Venteuil, very close to Epernay, that Champagne Marx-Coutelas continues to write the pages of its history today. Here, vines have covered the estate since the 11th century on this plateau where the slopes are facing south and the subsoil is chalky, making this particularity a totally original terroir. Today, current generations Patrick and his son Bryan work together in the pure tradition of winemaking with full control of their production, from the vine to the grapes, from the grape juice to the champagne. A quintessential representation of a quality grower in Champagne.
