Why We Love It: Champagne ELEA began in 1991 when David planted his first vines. A few years later, his wife, Emmanuelle, joined him to develop vineyards on steep, south-facing clay-limestone slopes overlooking the left bank of the Marne Valley. Planted primarily to Meunier with some Chardonnay, the vineyard grew steadily until David’s tragic accident in 2014. At that time, neighboring winemakers stepped in to help Emmanuelle complete the harvest, a gesture that continues to define the estate’s spirit. Since 2015, she has managed the vineyard independently. The cuvée “Les Coquelicots de Cerseuil,” named after the poppy, a symbol of freedom, rebirth, resilience, and fertility, remains a collaborative wine made with winemaker Cédric Moussé of Champagne Famille Moussé. Today, as a mother of three daughters (Eva, Lily, and Analéa) the estate’s name, Champagne ELEA, reflects both her personal journey and the enduring values of resilience, community, and terroir.
