Aperol Spritz

Not that this happens often at my house, but there are those rare morning when I wake up, grab the cream out of my refrigerator for my coffee, and spot a half drunk bottle of bubbles from last night's dinner party. Eeeeek! I really hate to waste a good thing, so I love to get inventive! This leftover bottle of sparkling wine can be put to many good uses...the most obvious being a mimosa. However, if you aren’t ready to drink for breakfast, my favorite thing to do with the unfinished bottle is make an afternoon Aperol Spritz. It will instantly transport you to your favorite vacation spot, which for me is right to the Italian coast! Aperol is an Italian aperitif made from bitter orange, rhubarb, and cinchona among other ingredients. It adds the perfect refreshing zing to those leftover bubbles. My favorite recipe is below....

Aperol Spritz Recipe

4 oz leftover sparkling wine
1 oz Aperol
1/2 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
Ice & an orange slice for garnish
Start by adding ice into the glass then pour in the sparkling wine, Aperol and orange juice. Give it a stir. Top with a slice of orange and serve with a straw if you prefer.
